WELCOME TO TEXAS K9
Texas K9 Association was started in 2010 by Karen A. Shivers as an opportunity to those who would like to enrich their involvement with K9’s. Karen has been involved in the sport of dogs since 1970 and has been judging since 1995. She has been an instructor for obedience, conformation, agility, tracking, herding & mondioring. Karen has titled dogs in AKC and UKC in conformation, obedience, agility, rally, dock diving, weight pull and herding. Karen has also titled dogs in Mondioring as well as trained and maintained narcotics detection, protection, search and recovery, and tracking dogs.
Texas K9 is recognized by the United Kennel Club (UKC) and offers conformation shows, obedience, rally, nosework, and dock diving trials for competition titles.
Texas K9 also hosts Mondioring trials under the United States Mondioring Association. Trials include all levels of classes in Obedience Only, Brevet, and MR1, MR2, & MR3
Our sister club, United Nosework hosts UKC Nosework trials & events.
Texas K9 Association is looking ahead to the future to include Agility and Lure Coursing.

United Nosework is a United Kennel Club (UKC) licensed organization that hosts several trials a year in the Northeast Texas area. United Nosework was the first recognized nosework organization for UKC and was the original club that started the titling program that eventually led to the acceptance of nosework with the UKC. United Nosework also offers classes and private instruction.

Mondioring/Ringsport Decoy & Trainer
H.B Ryan is one of our certified decoys that comes once a month to train our club members and their dogs in ringsport. H.B is a certified Mondiroing decoy with excellent skills in all levels of dog training for dogs of all ages.

Kevin Bain
Level 3 Mondioring Decoy & Trainer
Kevin excels in knowing how to read a dog and get the best out of training sessions. He is a Level 3 approved Mondioring Decoy as well as an excellent decoy in all protection sports. Kevin has experience in all levels of dog training including obedience and detection work. Kevin lives in North Carolina and trains with Texas K9 whenever his schedule allows.

Karen A. Shivers
Head Trainer
Karen A. Shivers has been involved in the sport of dogs since 1968 when she began in 4-H with obedience and Junior Showmanship. She was been very successful in competing with the American Kennel Club, the United Kennel Club, the Canadian Kennel Club, and the International Kennel Club. She began instructing classes for obedience and conformation in 1976 and added agility and tracking in 1988. She has been a member of the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors since 1976 and is the past President of this prestigious association. She was instrumental in the formation of the Garden State Kennel Club, Texas K9 Association, United Shetland Sheepdog Association, and United Nosework, all of which are licensed to hold trials and shows with the United Kennel Club. Karen is also the writer of the UKC Nosework program. In 2006 she began training in Mondioring along with narcotics detection and protection K9’s and in 2007 she was the first civilian graduate of the US Tactical K9 Law Enforcement Academy for that purpose. She currently holds a Private Investigation and Guard Dog training license with the State of Texas. Karen A. Shivers received her first judge’s license from the United Kennel Club in 1991 for conformation judging and obedience for all levels. She holds a conformation and scentwork license with the American Kennel Club, conformation and obedience with the Australian Shepherd Club of America, conformation with Irondog International, and conformation with the National Canine Association. Karen A. Shivers has trained, handled, and titled numerous dogs of several different breeds to their Conformation championships, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Herding, Weight Pull, Dock Diving, Nosework, and protection sports with the United States Mondioring Association, Irongdog, and Service Dogs of America. Karen A. Shivers holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Education with a minor in Psychology, a Master’s in Applied Criminology, and is working on a Doctoral degree in Criminal Justince. She has a life-long commitment to the sport of dogs through judging, training, and showing in conformation and performance events.
